A winter storm is quickly moving in over Rocky Mountain National Park. High winds and blowing snow rake the granite flanks of Hallet Peak. Sunrise provided dramatic lighting on Hallet Peak as the combination of snow and clouds help to create a scene reminiscent of an Albert Bierstadt painting. The famous nineteenth century painter visited Estes Park in 1863 and many of his paintings feature dramatic lighting and weather simmilar to the lighting in this image.
