January 6th, 2020: Interview and Podcast with David Johnston On The Landscape Photography Show

Interview and Podcast with David Johnston On The Landscape Photography Show

I recently was honored to be interviewed by David Johnston of the Landscape Photography Show and Podcast. We discussed a wide range of topics related to landscape photography. I had a great time on the show discussing transitioning from large format film to digital photography, photographing locations close to home versus locations far away, as well as all the changes I've seen in the past twenty plus year of landscape photography. David hosts some of the best landscape photographers on the planet and I highly recommend that you listen and subscribe to his podcast. You can find my interview with David here. https://www.davidjohnstonart.c...

March 13th, 2012: New Boulder County Open Space And Mountain Parks Gallery Added

New Boulder County Open Space And Mountain Parks Gallery Added

Winter seems to finally be loosening her grip here in the Boulder area. While it was not an abnormally cold or wet season, it seemed to be an extremely windy Winter down here on the Front Range. Spring is now in the air. Were finally seeing mild temperatures and birds such as the Meadowlark are filling the meadows and plains with their distinct and welcome calls.

I've stayed quite busy this Winter photographing in the field, but I've also spent a good amount of time adding new images to the Rocky Mountain National Park Gallery. I've also been spending much of my field time photographing locations close to home. In particular, I've been working on a project to photograph the many Open Space properties in and around Boulder County. I've added a new Boulder County Open Space and Mountain Park's Gallery with images of the beautiful natural landscapes the greater Boulder area contains. Look for me to continue to update these two Galleries in the future as they are the areas I continue to photograph and concentrate most of my field time. As always, feel free to check out my updated blog for new, tips, and new images.

August 8th, 2010: The Beaches of Southampton, New York

The Beaches of Southampton, New York

I just returned from a week of photography along the beaches of Southampton, New York. I had a very productive trip and had some interesting weather while on site. Each morning I was lucky enough to have a combination of sun, mist and clouds making it easy to compose some unique compositions along the different beaches. I was able to add new images of Coopers Beach, Dune Beach, and Flying Point Beach while on this visit to New York. The new images can be found in the Oceans gallery.

June 6th, 2010: Grand Canyon North Rim

Grand Canyon North Rim

I've just returned from 5 great days at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Although I have traveled around most of the Southwestern United States, I had yet to photograph at the Grand Canyon. I had been hesitant to visit the Grand Canyon because of the perceived crowds and locations which had been photographed many times prior by other great photographers. I was able to camp on the much less crowded North Rim of the Grand Canyon and the photography, locations and most importantly the light did not disappoint. It was a great trip and I returned with many images that I am quite pleased with. I will be updating the National Parks section of the site with new images from the Grand Canyon. I also have some photos in the backlog from other locations and will be adding those shots in the near future as well.

June 21st, 2009: Panoramic and Large Format Galleries Updated

Panoramic and Large Format Galleries Updated

Thank goodness, Summer is finally here. The snow in Rocky Mountain National Park is melting rapidly and access to Colorado's high country is becoming easier by the day. We have had a very wet spring here in Colorado and it appears to be shaping up to be a banner wildflower year with lower elevations already blooming. I have been spending the last few months working hard on processing and adding new images to the Panoramic and Large Format galleries. I've added over 80 new 6x17 cm Panoramic Images to the gallery and have added another 20 Images to the Large Format Gallery. I still have a large number of Large Format 4x5 Drum Scans to process and as soon as I get them in my hands I will clean them up and add them to the Large Format Gallery as time permits. With the new additions to the web site, there are now well over 300 images on the web site to browse through with many more to be added.

October 29th, 2008: Cityscape Gallery Updated

Cityscape Gallery Updated

Fall on the Front Range of Colorado is coming to an end. The leaves on the Aspens and Cottonwoods have fallen except for a few straglers here and there. We've already had a few dustings of snow in the higher elevations and the snowpack should begin to increase in the comining weeks. This is typically a slow time of year for my photography. Though I'd like to be catching the last of the fall color in the canyon country of Southwest Utah, its not in the cards for this year. This is however, a great time to organize, sort and process all the new images I have accumulated over the Summer and Fall. In the coming months look out not only for new Winter images, but for additional images I have had a chance to scan, process and add to the web site. I have recently added some new photos to my Cityscapes gallery from the New York City area.

September 27TH, 2008: Fall has arrived in Colorado

Fall has arrived in Colorado

This morning I was able to break away and get out to shoot some fall color in Rocky Mountain National Park. The fall color around Bear Lake was awesome. We've had a warm month with little rain or wind and the Aspen trees look great. I plan on getting out more to shoot in the next few weeks and will continue to add fall photos.

September 20th, 2008: Railroad gallery updated

Railroad gallery updated

I've updated the railroad gallery and added photos. Although railroad photography is a small part of what I now tend to photograph, it's also the part that helped spark my love of photography, travel and the outdoors. My railroad photography is very similar to my landscape photography in that I often try to convey a sense of place and beauty. Although photographing railroads may often take place in and around urban areas, 'trainscapes' or photographs simmilar in style to my landscape photography is what I often seek to accomplish.

September 4th, 2008: Site Launch

Site Launch

Welcome to my new web site! For the better part of the last ten years I've been attempting to get my site up and running. Numerous reasons delayed launching a user-friendly site, but the biggest reason was difficulty in maintaing and updating. I've dabled in trying to put together my own page and always found it difficult and more importantly downright tedious. Personally, I'd rather spend my time in the field photographing than spending all day on the computer attempting to update my site. I had been hearing great things about Jack Brauer's user-friendly web site software and finally decided it was time to contact Jack and get moving on a 'real' site. Jack is not only a very talented mountain photographer but an equally talented web site designer. You can view Jack's site here, www.WideRange.org. My new web site features an easy-to-access online gallery as well as simple and secure ordering via PayPal and the option of using a credit card to purchase your prints. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and I will continue to update the site frequently, so make sure you stop by often.
