Timber!

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Its about an hour after sunrise at Timber Lake on the beautiful west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. Timber Lake is a popular hike for backpackers and dayhikers alike. For photography, Timber Lake while spectacular can be a challenge to photograph. Mount Ida keeps much of the lake in shadow for the earliest parts of the morning. I have made the over 5 mile long hike many times, but never quite had the conditions work out as I wanted. This particular morning, once the sun cleared the ridgeline to the east of Timber Lake, some beautiful puffy clouds started to form over the west side of the park. This made for near perfect condtions at Timber Lake and I had a few short moments to capture both the light an the clouds over this favorite Rocky location. Photo © copyright by Thomas Mangan.
