I was backpacking far up the North Inlet of Rocky Mountain National Park. I set out from my backcountry site a little before 4:00 AM to make the 3 plus mile hike to Lake Nanita for sunrise. The winds were whipping this morning as I hiked up the steep trail and over the saddle down into the basin that holds Lake Nanita. This tarn, just a few hundred yards from Lake Nanita was sheltered enough that I was able to capture this image of Ptarmigan Mountain as a few clouds scattered around its flanks. The conditions where not perfect for photography with the winds, but this was one of my favorite mornings out in the backcountry of RMNP. Photo © copyright by Thomas Mangan.
