Forest In The Sky

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Generally speaking, fog is not a common occurance in Rocky Mountain National Park. High winds combined with a fairly arid climate makes foggy days a rarity. Because of this, photographing Rocky Mountain National Park on days when an inversion is present or fog is present is always a treat for me. When I first arrived in Rocky Mountain National Park this particular winter morning, the lower elevations were clear. It was long before dawn before I arrived so it was dark and difficult to see if any clouds hung over the Continental Divide. I drove up to the Bear Lake parking lot in search of clouds over the peaks. As soon as I arrived on the last switchback before the Bear Lake parking lot, the road was engulfed in fog and frost coated the trees. I could not hold back my excitement as these are my favorite condtions to photograph in. I quickly grabbed my gear and snowshoed up above Nymph Lake. I was finally rewarded when the sun rose and the forest was light enough to photograph. With the tree's coated in snow and frost and fog sifting through the pines I photographed this ghostly tree's which appeared like apparitions. Photo © copyright by Thomas Mangan.

Fine Art Prints Available

I strive to produce the highest quality Fine Art Prints. My Fine Art Prints are produced on a Fuji Semi Gloss photographic paper. The image is first prepped and adjusted by the photographer to represent the most accurate representation of the image and my vision.

The image is then sent off to be printed using the latest technology. The photographic paper is exposed with either LED lights or lasers then developed in RA-4 chemistry. This is done on a Lighjet or Chromira printer. This process allows for some of the cleanest, most accurate, archival prints available today.
