Horseshoe Aglow

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Sometimes is hard to put into words the exhilaration I get when I'm out in the field photographing Rocky Mountain National Park and the conditions all come together to form a magical scene unlike any I've witnessed before. This morning in March was one of those very morning. A spring storm had covered the landscape of Rocky Mountain National Park with fresh snow. My plan was to photograph the Mummy Range at sunrise if it wasnt covered in clouds. Driving up and unplowed Trail Ridge Road in the pre-dawn hours I could only tell that it was still cloudy and still snowing. Here in Colorado, the sun has a way of making brief appearances even when you would think there was no way in the world weather conditions would allow. With this in mind, I put on my snowshoes and started my pre-dawn trek up a closed Trail Ridge Road in order to get a commanding view of the Mummy Range. Things looked bleak as I setup my camera and tripod in the fresh powder that had fallen. Clouds had moved back in over the Mummy Range and prospects for a colorful sunrise looked bleak. This all changed right as the sun rose through a small break in the cloud cover. While the Mummy Range was covered in clouds, the fog and snow falling over Horseshoe Park exploded with color. I had to hurry to adjust my shooting location, move my camera and tripod and quickly capture the amazing scene unfolding before me. Photo © copyright by Thomas Mangan.

I strive to produce the highest quality Fine Art Prints. My Fine Art Prints are produced on a Fuji Semi Gloss photographic paper. The image is first prepped and adjusted by the photographer to represent the most accurate representation of the image and my vision.

The image is then sent off to be printed using the latest technology. The photographic paper is exposed with either LED lights or lasers then developed in RA-4 chemistry. This is done on a Lighjet or Chromira printer. This process allows for some of the cleanest, most accurate, archival prints available today.
