I've witnessed countless breathtaking sunrises while photographing Rocky Mountain National Park. I'm always amazed at how vibrant and breathtaking they can be when conditions are right. Many times I've been out in the field photographing a sunrise and have thought to myself 'it cant get anymore colorful than that'. Well Rocky continually proves me wrong providing colorful sunrises even more breathtaking than the last. On this mild January morning, the skies over Longs Peak and Upper Beaver Meadows were clear a few hours before dawn. About an hour or so before sunrise I could detect a layer of thin cloud cover starting to form over Rocky while the skies to the east remained clear. I held out hope that the high clouds would provide some nice subtle color when the sun began to rise. I had no idea how dramatic sunrise would turn out to be once the sun rose in the east. The winds began to pickup and a lenticular cloud formed over Longs Peak. When the sun rose, the entire range glowed pink, orange and red. To this day, it's one of the most colorful and dramatic sunrises I've ever had the privlidge to photograph in Rocky Mountain National Park. Photo © copyright by Thomas Mangan.
