It was a cold December morning in Rocky Mountain National Park. There had not been much snow early in this season so it was still fairly easy to get around in nothing but hiking boots. I headed out Fern Lake Road from the winter closing to the Fern Lake trailhead for a morning hike. Light snow was falling and it was just serene being out on the Fern Lake trail with nary a soul nearby. While hiking past a rocky outcropping I saw all these clumps of Holly mixed in between the rocks, red, purple and green with granular snow on top of the leaves. I stopped in my tracks and spent about an hour photographing different compositions this particular day. It was December in RMNP and I was certainly getting into the Christmas spirit!.
